"Focus"
oil on wood panel, 2'x16", 2'x2'
A set of two paintings that I'm doing for my Intermediate Painting
class. The assignment was to create a diptych,
triptych,
or assemblage
with some sort of metaphorical meaning. So these will either be hinged together
in some way or they'll have weird things attached to them. I haven't decided
which.
For once, I might actually write up a statement about my work.
The idea behind these two pieces is that what you focus on changes the way
you see things. The plane window is a metaphor for a person's outlook on the
world. Currently, both paintings are missing an essential second layer: the
raindrops on the window. The first painting will have the raindrops in clear
focus, and as a result, the background is blurred and the viewer only sees
a gray-blue blur. The second painting will have the raindrops in blurry doublevision,
but the outside scene is clear.
