Reverse Glimpses of the Early Hours
I. 10:00am
Hollow are the calls of the morning lark
To my ears: almost in dreams, I hear
The nightingale instead. The clock marks
The hour as ten; consciousness is a mere

II. 7:00am
Few hours back, when
You and I sat together
Watching the sun rise.

III. 5:00am
But before, we stood -
you glaring, me bleary-eyed,
pleading, praying for you
not to leave. The moon was
fading (its sliver of hope
mocked us both).

IV. 3:00am
"I should have slept hours ago," you said.
"There is a certain beauty about the night,"
I replied. And I cried, not knowing why.

V. 12:00 am
We stood outside: I leaned on you for
comfort, and you stood straight and tall.
"Look at the moon, it's so small," and
We directed our eyes upwards instead of
At each other.

And the moon shone: small, but so bright.
